New World Mall, Flushing, Queens, New York, United States (Food rating:3/5)

If you are on a tight budget and want to have a full hearty meal, how about buying takeouts at New World Mall? Located at the ground level entrance along Main Street, there is a food kiosk that sells economical food such as fried noodles, hot soups, savouries, steamed buns and so on.

We were exploring Flushing again and we found this fantastic kiosk in New World Mall. We ordered quite a number of food items that could feed two persons at less than USD10.00. This was the cheapest food place I have ever eaten in New York City. More importantly, the portion filled our stomachs.

Priced at USD2.00, the fried vermicelli tasted so much like home. Imagine a hamburger styrofoam box was filled with noodles on both sides before the box was clammed to gather and fastened. The portion was huge and fragrant. It was sufficient to make either two mels for one person or a meal for two. The lightly seasoned noodles, cooked with large onions, cabbage and carrot strips, brought back many nice memories. Instantaneously, I wished that I could have my granny's belacan chilli. The chilli would definitely boost the noodles by a hundred notches. (Food rating: 3.5/5)

Priced at USD3.75, the steamed glutinous rice was a disappointment. The steamed glutinous rice was chewy and I could see every grain of rice very beautifully. However, the fragrance was wanting. There was not much fragrance nor taste except coriander. This rice was the most expensive dish in the entire meal, yet it was the least delicious. (Food rating: 2/5)

At USD1.50, I could get a bowl of hot and spicy soup with generous serving of ingredients. The soup was delicious and mildy spicy. The ingredients include black fungus, golden mushrooms, tofu, button mushroom, fiddleheads and bamboo shoots. The weather had been rather cold lately. The hot and spicy soup was delicious. The hot and spicy soup somehow warmed the cockles of my heart. I felt that there was no ingredients missing to make this soup fragrant and addicting. (Food rating: 3.5/5)

The two pieces of deep-fried drumsticks, priced at USD1.50, was very cheap and delicious. The drumsticks were at least the size of my fist. I loved the crispy crust and the tender, moist meat. There was a nice fragrance in the marinade. The chicken drumsticks were a definite delighht. (Food rating: 3.5/5)
