Paradise Inn @ Marina Bay Link Mall, Singapore

Paradise Inn is located at the Marina Bay Link Mall and the basement of Marina Bay Financial Centre. It is accessible via the Downtown Line (blue), Circle Line (orange) and North-South Line (red). The restaurant serves ambrosial dishes that you will keep coming back for more.

If you are looking for something fruity and excites your sensors, try Fried Crystal Prawn in Wasabi (青芥末虾球) above at Paradise Inn. The prawns was freshly prepared and crunchy. This dish with wasabi not only gives you the spicy taste but also a burning sensation. Then, the sweet fruity taste balances the spiciness at the same time. This gustatory simulation gave you that 'oomph' feeling. Try it and let me know if you feel that same way. (Food rating: 3.5/5)

Double-boiled Water Goby with Fresh Apple Soup (苹果炖生鱼汤) re-energises the mind, improves breathing and nourishes the lungs. The ingredients in the soup include red apple, water goby, spare ribs, lean meat, chicken, chicken feet, and sweet and bitter apricot kernels. The soup had its natural sweetness from the apple and collagen from the chicken feet. I liked the light sweet clear soup. All the meat were tender and moist. It's satisfying! (Food rating: 4/5)

Appetisers are very important for stimulating appetites. The small dishes are served before the main course of a meal. We ordered the Japanese Cucumber with Garlic and Vinegar (蒜香日本青瓜) as starters. The fresh, yet crunchy cucumber cubes were extremely refreshing. The mixture of vinegar and garlic tasted very good. Although I dislike garlic, these cucumber cubes with refreshing mixture were superbly good. *crunch crunch* (Food rating: 3/5)

The second appetiser was the Fried Fish Skin with Homemade Sauce (自制酱脆炸鱼皮). I have recently grown to like fried fish skin. Unlike the fish skins I have eaten before, this crispy delicious fish skin tasted very much like fish crackers and did not have any oily or fishy aftertaste. I did not believe that I actually enjoyed eating the crispy fried fish skins. The homemade sauce was a winner. The belacan chilli was made from fermented shrimp paste and chilli. Although the chilli was very spicy, the fish skin dipped in the sauce gave that extra 'oomph'. Somehow, you just keep on grabbing another crispy skin with chilli and putting into your mouth. Sooner or later, you will have pouty lips. (Food rating: 4/5)

We did not wait too long before the main dishes were served. The dishes came one after another. Soon, our table was full of food. One of the main dishes was the Braised Vermicelli with Pork Trotters (猪手焖米粉). The sauce was light and delicious. The noodles was a little soft but it was perfectly soaked with the braised sauce. I liked the way the noodle was cooked. The pork trotters were tender and moist. The meat disintegrated once you put into your mouth. It will be best to eat with cut green chilli to enhance the taste. Hot Plate Tofu with Caixin (菜香铁板豆腐) was one of the popular dishes at Paradise Inn. The square firm tofu (beancurd) laid on top of the sizzling hot plate. An egg was cracked into the hot plate. When served, the plate was sizzling while cooking the egg at the same time. The sauce was unique, yet yummy. It tasted a little like Ma Bo Tofu. The preserved vegetables or Cai Xin was added in the mixture. The sauce was sweet and salty. I recommend you to try this dish. (Food rating: 3.5/5)

I never fail to order a Sweet and Sour Pork dish whenever I dine at a Chinese Restaurant. Without fail, I ordered a Sweet and Sour Pork with Pineapple (特刺波罗咕噜肉) at Paradise Inn. The sweet and sour sauce was tangy but addictive. The marinated deep fried pork cubes were crispy on the crust and the meat was tender and moist. The dish was then garnished with green peppers, coriander leaves, pineapple cubes and chopped onions. The sweet and sour pork with pineapples suited both young and old. (Food rating: 4/5)

I chose this hot beverage Forget Me Not, Rose, Dried Longan and Chrysanthemum (勿忘我,玫瑰花, 龙眼, 菊花) whenever I dine here. As indicated in the menu, the beverage helps to detoxify the body, lower blood pressure and has calming effects. The drink had a natural sweetness and was very delicious. (Food rating: 3/5)

Sambal Kang Kong (马来风光) is a typical local vegetable dish. It has shrimp paste, chilli and kang kong (or water spinach). I liked the way the vegetables were cooked at Paradise Inn. This type of vegetables turns yellow or brown very easily so the heat and speed of cooking must be precise. This mouthwatering vegetable dish was spicy and crunchy. The green leafy vegetable retained its colour and looked very delicious. You can eat it with rice or on its own. (Food rating: 4/5)

Grandma's Scrambled Egg with Tomato (阿婆番茄炒蛋)
, although it looks simple, makes one feel at home. This was one of the dishes I eat whenever I miss home while staying overseas. The moist scrambled eggs with tomato cubes and puree were sour and sweet at the same time. I have yet mastered this dish and I hope to cook as well as the picture above. (Food rating: 3/5)

One of the restaurant's specialty dish was the Coffee Pork Ribs (咖啡排骨王). The pork ribs were very tender and moist. The coffee sauce was fragrant. When you eat the meat, it had a bittersweet aftertaste. Objectively, I find that the dish was delicious and fragrant. There was a rich coffee aroma that travelled to your nose. As a tea lover, I did not reject the dish outright. Instead, I find the coffee on the meat bitter. Otherwise, it tasted fine. (Food rating: 3/5)

I simply love fried rice. You can say that I am a fried rice junkie. Recommended by my friend, we ordered a Crispy Supreme Seafood Fried Rice (香脆海鮮皇鸳鸯炒饭). When it was served, I was taken by surprise by the golden yellow fried rice. There was a nice fragrance coming from the rice. I could not describe it adequately as I could simply say that the dish had the smell of stir frying rice using the wok's heat. This fragrance is indescribable. The ingredients include fresh prawns and then sizzled with crispy rice bits. I can say that this is well recommended. I had many servings. Thanks, mate. (Food rating: 4.5/5)

We have ordered stir fried and deep fried dishes. I thought that we could balance the meal with something steamed. Minced Pork with Salted Fish and Water Chestnut (手剁咸鱼马马蹄蒸肉饼) was a beautiful steamed dish. The fresh minced pork mixed with salted fish and water chestnut gave us a sweet and salty aftertaste. The chopped water chestnut gave the extra crunch to the meat pudding. I liked best when I dipped it with cut red chilli. It added that extra oomph to the dish. (Food rating: 3.5/5)

Chinese Spinach with Egg Trio (金银蛋浸苋菜) is normally a Cantonese vegetable dish. It uses three kinds of eggs, hen egg, salted egg and century egg. The egg mixture is cooked with spinach. The spinach was perfectly blanched. You can still see the beautiful green coloured leaves. Minced meat was also added into the dish to give that extra sweetness. (Food rating: 4/5)

Fried Crystal Prawns with Salted Egg (黄金咸蛋虾球), personally, is highly cholesterol but it is worth it. The crunchy fresh prawns were dipped into the salted egg yolk mixture and then deep fried. The savoury salted egg yolk mixture and the natural sweet prawns were heavenly. It was indescribable. (Food rating: 4/5)

The last two dishes were very delicious. They were so delicious that I forgot to take pictures of them before we attacked them. Although it may be difficult to describe my dining experience accurately without pictures, I will try my best to share with you in words. I will put up the pictures the next time I dine at Paradise Inn.

Stir-Fried Hor Fun with Beef (干炒牛肉河粉) requires a cooking technique. Similar to fried rice, the beef hor fun requires that smell of stir frying using the wok's heat. The flat rice noodles are stir fried in dark soy sauce. However, it is the smell and the lightly charred noodles that make the dish ambrosial. Even now, as I am writing about this, I am already salivating. (Food rating: 4.5/5)

'Bang Bang' Chicken with Honey and Ginger (姜芽棒棒妈) sounds like someone shooting a gun. The 'bang bang' sounds means the clash of two flavours - sweetness and spicy. The tender chicken with the sauce were fantastic. You can just eat it on its own. (Food rating: 3.5/5)
