Sin Swee Kee Chicken Rice (新瓀记鸡饭), Singapore

I came across this restaurant - Sin Swee Kee Chicken Rice (新瓀记鸡饭) when my friends brought me there. A popular chicken joint where many tourists come to dine at the shop. The shop not only sells chicken rice it also sells other dishes like fried rice, hor fun and many others. The food outlet is next to Raffles Hotel and the nearest MRT station is City Hall.

A plate of chicken rice cost $4.30.

When it comes to Hainanese chicken rice, the rice is very important. I love the aromatic rice. The stall used chicken stock and the rice was shiny and not soggy. The rice too had a very nice smell that made most people drool. I love to add dark soy sauce on the rice. Somehow, it made the rice more delicious. (Food Rating: 2.5/5)

The Roasted and Steamed Chicken were fantastic. For the roasted chicken, I am surprised how the skin was flavourful and yet the meat was moist and tender. Most of the roasted chicken I ate elsewhere were dry and tough. This was different and enjoyable. As for the steamed chicken, the meat was lean and again, tender and moist. The generous brown sauce that came with the chicken added the flavour to the entire dish. (Food Rating: 3.5/5)

The Mushroom Egg Omelet was very well cooked. I love the moist egg omelet with generous serving for mushrooms. These mushrooms had very nice aroma. It is worth it. (Food Rating: 2.5/5)

Recently, I was back at Sin Swee Kee Chicken Rice again. As usual, I ordered half portion of steamed chicken with fragrant rice, Thai-style Tofu and bean sprouts.

The steamed chicken was still very delicious. The meat was moist and juicy. More importantly, it was not fatty. Dipping the chicken into the the chilli garlic sauce and dark sauce makes the meat more tasteful.

We ordered two new side dishes - thai-style tofu and bean sprout.

The bean sprouts were nice, especially with the sauce. It tasted nice with the fragrant rice. (Food rating: 2.5/5)

The thai-style tofu was delicious, particularly on the chilli and cucumber. It was also good with rice. However, the tofu was a little disappointing. It tasted as if it was cooked in stale oil. The tofu, though crispy, tasted weird. I ate most of the cucumber. If they were to cook the tofu in fresh oil, I will definitely eat them all. (Food rating: 2.5/5)
