Canton Paradise (樂天小香港) @ Compass Point, Singapore

Under the umbrella of the Paradise Group, Canton Paradise (樂天小香港) specialises in Cantonese cuisine. Besides the classic Cantonese treat like all-day dim sum treats, the restaurant offers other traditional favourites like wanton noodles, rice dishes, congee and most importantly, roast meat.

Since my last visit at Canton Paradise, I loved the food especially their crackling roast pork. The settings was very cosy as if I was back in time of the sixties in the former British colony. The friendly staff were attentive and the ambiance was great.

Wok-fried Rice with Salted Fish and Diced Chicken (咸鱼鸡粒炒饭) (above) was like 'Chicken Soup for the Soul'. Till today, I was still crazy over rice. I loved the granular rice. The rice was delicious with the crispy salted fish bits. The rice was tastier when eaten cold. (Food Rating: 3.5/5)

When I first ate the Crackling Pork Belly (脆皮烧腩肉) from my last visit, there was indeed crackling sound. This time, I failed to have the crackling sound. The roast meat tasted ordinary. I was actually looking forward to the cracking sound when I chewed. (Food Rating: 2.5/5)

BBQ Pork Belly with Honey Sauce (秘制肥婆黑叉烧) used pork belly. The honey sauce on barbequed meat was too sweet. However, I liked the tender pork belly. The overly sweet sauce somehow killed the dish. (Food Rating: 2/5)

We wanted to try something different besides the usual suspect, Wanton Noodles. So, we ordered Poached US Marbled Beef Noodle (姜葱美国肥肉面). The noodles were served very simple. Egg noodles cooked in al dente style topped with the beef. I loved the noodles as it was chewy. However, the beef was overcooked and very tough. I gave up biting it off and used my hands instead. (Food Rating: 2/5)

Steamed Cheong Fun was one of my favourite dim sum and I ordered Steamed Cheong-fun with Honey BBQ Pork Filling (叉烧肠粉). When it was served, the flat noodles had a glossy shine and the sauce was very light. I liked it very much. (Food Rating: 3/5)

Steamed Custard Bun (奶油流沙包) was also one of my favourite dim sum. I loved the sweet white bun and most importantly, the egg custard oozing out. I liked the just nice sweet egg custard. Do try. (Food Rating: 3/5)

Though this dish was like a side order, the Wanton in Chilli Sauce (红油炒手) was served last. The nicely cooked wanton soaked in the chilli oil was spicy. By the time the dish was served, I was already too full to take another bite. Simply, this dish tasted nice. I hope to give better review of this at my next visit. Or please share your reviews of this dish. (Food Rating: 2.5/5)
